Steve Merricks is currently a 5th Degree Black Belt. He has been 5 times British Champion, European Team Champion and a 2 times World Tae Kwon-Do International Champion. He is ranked as one of the most consistent English International competitors on the tournament scene in which he has competed in a record breaking 7 World Championships, competing in both sparring and pattern events. In 2011 saw Steve awarded two of the regions most prestigious sporting honours, namely Sportsman of the Year by both Solihull Sports Council and at the Coventry,Solihull & Warwickshire Sports Awards for his achievements and tournament success within Tae Kwon-Do. Steve is also a fully qualified International Instructor. His Club in Shirley is ranked as one of the best in the country having trained numerous students into national champions and successful black belts. He has appeared in Tae Kwon-Do magazines, newspapers and on local radio highlighting his achievements in his art. Steve says “Tae Kwon-Do has given me many great opportunities and experiences through the years. Although competing was my main outlet, Tae Kwon-Do has so much more to offer. If you are looking to improve fitness, gain confidence, self awareness, learn a means of self-defence, or even just make new friends, then Tae Kwon-Do is for you. Whatever aspect appeals to you, there is something for everyone.” As for being an Instructor, Steve goes on to say:-“To me Tae Kwon-Do is all about learning and having fun. I’m extremely proud of my students; there is a great atmosphere at the club making teaching a pleasure.
