Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club is part of the Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB). It is Britain’s largest Tae Kwon-Do Association with over 25,000 members in over 450 clubs throughout the country.
Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club was formed in February 1997 by former 3x World Champion and International Instructor Steve Merricks.
The club runs 2 weekly classes on Sundays & Wednesdays at Light Hall School In Shirley and at Dickens Heath Village Hall in Dickens Heath.
Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club actively participates in all local & national tournaments as well as World Championship events of which the club has been successful in producing numerous regional, national and World Champions to date The club also competes in an annual Interclub event with other local clubs where all funds raised go to nominated local and national charites..
Following their success as a club and at tournaments, In 2011 the club was awarded Club of the Year at the Solihull Sports Awards along with their Instructor Steve Merricks being awarded Sportsman of the Year. This was the first time any martial arts club and Instructor had won and been recognised at these awards.
With membership around 90 active students, the club holds regular demonstration nights highlighting the different aspects of training and the benefits of Tae Kwon-Do as well as holding regular gradings throughout the year.
In 2014 the Club was presented with clubmark status which is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports clubs, representing higher standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management in community sports clubs.
